Social service; is a practice-based profession and academic discipline that supports social change and development, social integration, empowerment, and emancipation of people. It focuses on social work principles, social justice, human rights, mutual responsibility, and respect for differences. Supported by social work theories, humanities, social sciences, and local knowledge, social work works with people and structures to tackle life challenges and improve well-being.
The program aims to train competent "Social Workers" who can contribute to developing social justice and human health for sustainable human and social development, reveal the power of social institutions and social policies, and are equipped with contemporary and universal knowledge.
Education
Social Work and Counseling Program is an associate degree program that provides education for two years. In the first year, introductory level training in the social work program is provided. In the first year, introduction to social work, sociology, communication knowledge, and standard courses are offered. In the second year; family sociology, social problems, social service for the disabled, social service management, social service organizations, primary care services, social work ethics, social security systems, social policy, elderly and patient care services, social service and family institution, disability rights and social service Courses aiming to increase the level of success in the field such as primary health care services are given.
Students are required to take 120 credits of courses and succeed in graduation. Our university's grading system is 4.00, and an average of 2.00 is required for graduation. The internship is not compulsory; if done, it is stated in the transcript. Although Social Services seems like a new branch in the field of social sciences, it has a widespread application in developed countries.
DGS and Transition Departments
Graduated students can enter formal undergraduate programs or open education undergraduate programs by entering the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).
Content of the Exam
Vertical transfer exam (DGS), 2-year vocational school graduates giving associate degree diploma or candidates who can graduate from 2-year vocational high schools that provide an assistant degree diploma, if they meet certain conditions, They can transfer to their programs and get the undergraduate certificate of that department, provided that they pass the "Vertical Transfer Exam" (DGS) conducted by Ösym. The number of questions in the exam was determined as 60 verbal, 60 numerical, 120 questions in total, and the exam duration as 140 minutes. There are ten logic questions in both sections.
